Anointing of the Sick

What is often referred to as the “Last Rites" combines three rituals of the Church: (1) The Sacrament of Confession, (2) The Sacrament of Anointing, and (3) The Sacrament of Holy Communion. These Last Rites are intended to aid an individual completing his earthly pilgrimage to the Lord, to cleanse and the strengthen the soul for its final moments in this life, and to prepare and fortify him with the prayers of the Church as he enters eternal life.
 
The reception of Last Rites is not limited to one's very last moments of life. Those preparing for death (starting hospice, ending cancer treatment, etc.) are encouraged to request the sacraments early since consciousness is required for the celebration of confession and the consumption of food for receiving the Eucharist. One may miss the opportunity to receive these sources of grace and healing if unnecessarily delayed. If desired, it is encouraged to invite family or friends to share in the prayers as a powerful means of offering and receiving support. Please contact Fr. Michael Creagan (651-379-1261) or Fr. In the event of an emergency where death is imminent, please contact the on-call priest using the Emergency Line (952-259-3795).
 
Please make sure family members, Catholic and non-Catholic, know of your desire to receive Last Rites if you are facing death. Due to federal privacy laws, our parishes are not automatically provided lists of hospitalized or institutionalized parishioners.
