The preparation process for Confirmation aims to help candidates understand a fundamental teaching of the Catholic faith: My life is not my own, but the Lord’s. Everything I experience as my life is a pure, undeserved gift from the Creator. This life-giving gift is called grace.
Confirmation completes the graces of Baptism. This does not mean Confirmation is necessary for salvation; rather, the Baptismal candidate receives the grace of God unknowingly as an infant while the Confirmation candidate receives the grace of knowing this grace. Encountering the reality of grace opens the candidate to receive the Holy Spirit, given to us by our Lord Jesus Christ for the sake of living our Catholic identity as missionary disciples (Acts 1:8).
Confirmation is not a “graduation” or “rite of passage”. This sacrament fortifies our candidates with:
-Awareness of the Holy Spirit's gifts given at Baptism.
-Knowledge of the Lord's undeserved and unconditional pursuit of all.
-Understanding that life is about God, not about "me."
-Abundant grace to live the baptized Christian's mission of priest, prophet, and king.
Confirmation formation is a two-year preparation process beginning in 7th grade. Our Faith Formation students will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in 8th grade.
